Wrexham have confirmed that veteran winger James McClean has signed a new deal with the club.

WHAT HAPPENED?
The 36-year-old was into the last year of his Wrexham contract, but now he has penned a deal that runs until the summer of 2027. The former Republic of Ireland international, who has made 89 appearances for the club since joining in 2023, expressed his delight at extending his stay with the Welsh outfit.

WHAT MCCLEAN SAID
He told the club's website: "I’m delighted to be extending my contract with the Club. It’s no secret that I’ve enjoyed my time here and I want to help continue the success we’ve had so far. My family love it here, I love it here and we’re excited for the future."

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Wrexham are seemingly making all the right moves ahead of the new Championship season. They have made statement signings with the likes of Lewis O'Brien, Liberato Cacace, Conor Coady, and Kieffer Moore, and now extending McClean's contract is another smart bit of business after he captained them to League One promotion success last season.

Now McClean and Wrexham can look forward to their first Championship game of the season when they travel to Southampton on Saturday.
Incidentally, manager Phil Parkinson said on the contract renewal: "We’re pleased to secure an extension to Jimmy’s contract. He’s an important player and character in the dressing room as we prepare for a historic season.”
